Pastor of Family Ministry

Job Description

The Pastor of Family Ministry will work as a part of the pastoral team to lead and shepherd families. He will oversee the children’s and student ministries (birth-12th grade). He is not expected to do all of the ministry, but rather provide oversight, direction, encouragement, training, and mentoring to ministry leaders and volunteers. He should have a shepherd’s heart in equipping parents to be the primary disciple-makers of their children.  This is a part-time position with an expected weekly time commitment of 15 to 20 hours.


  • Must have a clear profession of faith in and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Demonstrate the qualifications of a pastor/elder as listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
  • Be in agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)
  • Maintain regular rhythms of personal Bible study, prayer, serving, and financial giving
  • Must be committed to sharing the gospel with those who do not know Jesus Christ
  • Must be able to express a call to ministry
  • Must be able to teach and preach
  • Have a love for families and an understanding of discipleship
  • Desire to facilitate God-centered, Christ-exalting ministry
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Seminary degree preferred)
  • Three or more years of experience preferred
  • Must be able to pass a background check


  • Ability to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph. 4:12)
  • Spiritual gifts could include: teaching, shepherding, exhortation, evangelism, administration, and/or mercy
  • Relational (connecting with others to connect them with Jesus)
  • Able to share his faith and lead others to Christ
  • Ability to work with others and resolve conflict biblically
  • Good team player


  • Cast vision and provide leadership for a comprehensive family ministry that is unified with the vision, mission, and purpose of our church
  • Recruit and provide training for adult leaders and volunteers to do the work of ministry
  • Provide consistent pastoral presence for the families in our church, including coaching, mentoring, encouragement, and equipping parents as primary-disciple makers of their children
  • Promote prayer as a vital aspect of each area of ministry
  • Advocate for an intergenerational culture within the church
  • Develop and maintain clear communication for families/parents, including email, text, print, and social media
  • Perform administrative duties related to the Pastor of Family Ministry position
  • Develop an annual budget for the Finance Team and manage resources wisely
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, annual planning meeting(s), and maintain good communication with the rest of the pastoral team
  • Perform other pastoral functions such as occasional preaching, weddings, funerals, leading meetings, counseling, etc.
  • Must be flexible and willing to grow
  • Participate in the overall life of the church and support its total mission and purpose
