Thanking God for who He is

Thanksgiving. A time when we remember the many blessings that we have received. But so often, our self-centered hearts are bent toward focusing on what we receive rather than the One from whom we receive it. “If all we ever do is seek God’s hand, we may miss His face; but if we seek His face, He will be glad to open His hand and satisfy the deepest desires of our hearts,” writes Daniel Henderson in Transforming Prayer. To seek God’s face is to consider His very essence, who He is. This year, as we set aside a night for thanksgiving, we will be guided by Psalm 50 to consider some of the attributes of God. Our prayer is that this time of reflection will produce a deeper sense of love and thankfulness for the God who provides us with all that we have.
