What does it mean to be a member of a church? When we think of memberships, we think of joining a gym, a club, or a food warehouse. In each of these cases, there are dues but very few obligations. Being a member of a church is much different. In his compact book, I Am A Church Member, Thom Rainer unpacks what it means to be a vital part of the local church.
Starting February 2nd, our Discipleship Groups will be working our way through this book, examining what the scriptures have to say about our commitments to the Lord and each other, as well as challenging each other to be faithful to those commitments.
When: Wednesday mornings (10am) or evenings (7:30pm), starting February 2nd
Where: Most groups meet at the church
Who: YOU!! (and your friends)
About I Am A Church Member
Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. “I Am a Church Member” started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members — rather than the functional and theological issues — that previous new member primers all but ignored.
Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person’s attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally.
