The purpose of First Baptist Church is to glorify God by being gospel-transformed people. This means that everything we do centers around helping people grow to become more like Jesus Christ. We recognize that our ultimate problem is sin, and therefore the ultimate solution is the good news of Jesus. It is only when God changes a person’s heart through salvation that they can begin this process of transformation, which is enabled by the indwelling Holy Spirit. As a person is transformed by the power of the gospel, their life begins to be filled with God-glorifying behaviors.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. – 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)
The vision of First Baptist Church is to present everyone mature in Christ. Our goal is not just to see more people saved, but to see them grow into mature followers of Jesus Christ. This begins with the people who are already members of our church, but expands out to the ends of the earth as those mature believers take the good news of Jesus to their neighbors and the nations.
Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. – Colossian 1:28 (ESV)
